Was it was the new game format or a seemingly renewed intensity among the players themselves? The 2026 NBA All-Star Game (ASG) delivered on all fronts.
Fans were treated to some surprisingly competitive basketball from the 2026 game’s biggest stars.
From the aggressive play of Victor Wembanyama to the inspired efforts of Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Edwards, the NBA finally produced an All-Star Game worth watching.
It wasn’t always like this. The league’s midseason showcase was once must-see television, making headlines every year with unforgettable moments and iconic performances.
If the 2026 game felt like a throwback, it’s because the bar was once set incredibly high. When stars fully embrace the moment, the results are unforgettable. Just take a look at some of the greatest performances in NBA All-Star Game history, where superstars become legends.
10. Allen Iverson, 2001
Playing in front of a home crowd in Philadelphia, Iverson brought an intensity that changed the entire tone of the 2001 All-Star Game.
In a now-legendary performance, he played aggressive defence, forcing turnovers and igniting fast breaks every chance he got.
Iverson ended up leading the Eastern Conference back from a 21-point deficit with 25 points, 5 assists, 3 steals and All-Star Game MVP honours.
9. Russell Westbrook, 2015
Not many players have won All-Star Game MVP off the bench, but that’s exactly what Russell Westbrook did in 2015.
In typical Westbrook fashion, he played at full speed from the opening tip, attacking the rim with explosive drives at every opportunity.
He finished with 41 points in only 26 minutes and earned his place in ASG history
8. LeBron James, 2012
LeBron delivered his signature ASG moment in 2012, putting up 36 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists in a game for the ages. He showed the fans in attendance why he was the best player in the world at the time, impacting every aspect of the game with his vision, scoring touch and basketball IQ.
He managed to be MVP despite being on the losing team.
7. Anthony Davis, 2017
Playing the role of hometown hero, Anthony Davis gave fans in New Orleans something to cheer about in 2017. He dominated his fellow All-Stars from the opening tip, finishing lobs, knocking down jumpers and scoring from just about everywhere on the floor.
Davis set the ASG scoring record with 52 points and was the obvious pick for MVP.
6. Giannis Antetokounmpo, 2021
Giannis imposed his will on defenders with his unique combination of length, strength and speed. The 6’11” power forward went a perfect 16-for-16 from the floor, setting an ASG record for most made field goals without a miss.
He finished the game with 35 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, winning MVP honours in the most efficient performance in All-Star Game history.
5. Jayson Tatum, 2023
The most recent entry on this list, Jayson Tatum set a new ASG scoring record with 55 points, surpassing the benchmark set by Anthony Davis just a few years prior. The Celtics forward produced consistently across all four quarters, finishing in transition and knocking down 10 three-pointers.
He was only 24 years old at the time, making his record-breaking point total and MVP performance all the more impressive.
4. Magic Johnson, 1992
This was an emotional All-Star Game for Magic, taking place just months after his shocking HIV diagnosis and retirement. The Lakers superstar was voted into the game by the fans, and he did not disappoint. Magic took over in the final minutes, hitting back-to-back three-pointers and a no-look assist when it mattered most.
He ended the night with 25 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds, with his touching storyline making him the clear choice for MVP.
3. Steph Curry, 2022
Considered by many to be the greatest shooter in NBA history, Curry showed off his craft during the 2022 All-Star Game. He drained an ASG-record 16 three-pointers, pulling up from well beyond the arc and knocking down shots from absurd distances.
He finished with 50 points, leading his team to victory and earning the game’s MVP award with one of the greatest shooting displays ever witnessed on an NBA court.
2. Wilt Chamberlain, 1962
Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary performance in the 1962 NBA All-Star Game cannot go overlooked. Chamberlain took the game seriously, defending aggressively and scoring efficiently in the low post. In a final stat line that would be unthinkable today, Wilt scored 42 points and grabbed 24 rebounds. Incredibly, he did not win All-Star Game MVP that year, with those honours going to Bob Pettit.
1. Michael Jordan, 1988
Playing in front of a home crowd in Chicago and fresh off his win at the Slam Dunk Contest, MJ capped off the weekend with a memorable ASG performance. Known for his competitiveness, Jordan asserted himself on the floor and demanded the ball in key moments. The fans fed off his play, growing wilder with each bucket.
He ended the game with 40 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks, adding All-Star Game MVP to his title of Slam Dunk Champion.
